How Does AcceleDent® Make Orthodontic Treatment More Efficient?

May 6th, 2020

Good things come to those who wait. And a beautiful, healthy smile is something worth waiting for! But if there were some way to make the orthodontic process work more quickly, that would be even better. If making your orthodontic treatment more efficient is something that might interest you, talk to us when you visit our Idaho Falls, Rigby, Rexburg, Afton, and Salmon office, and we’ll explain how you might be able to shorten your time in braces or aligners by using AcceleDent.

How Does Orthodontic Treatment Move Your Teeth?

Our bone cells are really doing a lot of the work! Normally, the bone tissue in our jaws holds our teeth in place very securely. As pressure is put on the teeth through braces or aligners, two things happen: tissue on one side of the tooth stretches, and tissue on the other side of the tooth compresses. Our bones react to these gradual changes by creating more bone cells where the stretching occurs, and maintaining fewer on the other side. Eventually, the bone around our teeth will reshape to create an even, attractive smile and to firmly maintain the teeth in their new positions.

How Can AcceleDent Speed Up this Process?

AcceleDent is an orthodontic device designed to increase the activity of the cells that are remodeling the bone surrounding each tooth. The AcceleDent appliance provides gentle and precise vibrations with a patented process called SoftPulseTechnology®.  When you activate the appliance, these vibrations, called micropulses, travel through the roots of the teeth into the surrounding bone. The micropulses stimulate cellular activity in the bones, leading to a faster remodeling of the bone structure and faster tooth movement.

To make things even easier for you, the third generation of AcceleDent technology, the AcceleDent Optima™, can be linked to the AcceleDent App. You can monitor your progress on the dashboard, discover motivational tools, and even share connections with family, friends and your treatment team.

If you are interested in making your best smile happen—and happen more quickly— talk to Dr. Lowder about how much time AcceleDent might save in your personal treatment plan. Good things come to those who wait, but a good thing that comes a bit sooner than expected? Even better!

The ClearCorrect™ Treatment Process

April 22nd, 2020

ClearCorrect has become a preferred and favorite treatment for those that have to wear braces. ClearCorrect offers patients the opportunity to straighten teeth with clear aligners instead of metal braces. The clear aligners will be replaced about every two weeks until your teeth have reached the desired goal set by Dr. Lowder.

How to Start

You can start this process by having Dr. Lowder look at your teeth and see if you will be good candidate for this type of treatment. If you are a good match then a set of impressions will be taken right away of your teeth as well as photos and X-rays. These will all be sent off to have your first set of aligners made.

ClearCorrect is able to create 3D designs of your teeth on a computer system to create the exact fit of your specific aligners. The whole treatment plan is completed with this modern technology so that you are able to have the best possible treatment available.

Why choose ClearCorrect?

  • ClearCorrect is now one of the most desired treatment plans available. Most patients become self-conscience while wearing braces, but since these are offered in clear aligner’s patients can smile proudly because they are virtually invisible.
  • They also offer the convenience of being able to remove the aligners while eating, brushing and flossing as well as playing sports. For teens this is a big plus because it takes away the chance of the braces hurting the mouth if they are hit in the face.
  • They can speed up the treatment time if worn as directed, and are usually comparable to the cost of traditional braces as well other treatment options.

Overall Success

With all the benefits that ClearCorrect offers to patients they are quickly becoming one of the most sought after treatments. Patients enjoy the option of removing them to eat as well as when they brush and floss. It’s definitely worth a visit to our Idaho Falls, Rigby, Rexburg, Afton, and Salmon office to see if you are a good candidate for this treatment.

Adults and Braces

April 15th, 2020

Braces aren’t just for kids. Many grownups are taking advantage of orthodontic treatment and having their teeth straightened at a later age.

Sometimes, patients include adults who already had braces in the past, but their teeth shifted over time once they stopped wearing their retainers. In other cases, adults who have never had braces are tired of having crooked teeth and ready to invest in a beautiful smile.

Whatever the case may be, if you’re looking to straighten your teeth with braces, Dr. Lowder would love to help you with this process. Having a dazzling smile can increase your confidence in all areas of your life!

Depending on what you’re willing to spend and how quickly you would like to complete the process, you have various options for getting braces. We all know what traditional metal braces look like. This is a less-expensive route for individuals who have severely crooked or displaced teeth. However, many adults avoid option because the braces are noticeable or distracting in a professional atmosphere.

For people concerned about aesthetics, clear ceramic braces may be a preferable option. This type can still fix extremely crooked teeth or jaw alignment issues. It may be slightly more expensive than traditional metal braces. Patients who choose this treatment route need to be careful not to stain the clear adhesives by drinking too much coffee, red wine, soda, or other beverages that can discolor teeth.

Another great option for adults who don’t want to have visible braces is a clear aligner treatment known as Invisalign®. This popular option differs from traditional braces by featuring a series of clear aligners that are each custom-made for your teeth.

The entire process can take anywhere from three to 18 months to straighten your teeth completely. This may not be the best choice for patients who have an overcrowded mouth or extreme bite issues. Invisalign is often the most expensive option, but it’s great if you’re concerned about your appearance while your teeth are being straightened.

If you’ve been thinking about straightening your teeth with the help of braces, don’t hesitate to contact our Idaho Falls, Rigby, Rexburg, Afton, and Salmon office to set up a consultation. From there, Dr. Lowder can figure out the best course of treatment, depending on your budget and overall needs.

Adult braces can be a great way to boost your confidence and finally give you the smile you’ve always wanted.
